Ground-breaking May 1

IMG_7276.jpg

It was a beautiful day for a ground-breaking, and Mayor Lois Jackson, Councillors Bruce MacDonald, Heather King, Anne Peterson, and Ian Paton, as well as then-MP Sukh Dhaliwal and Fraser Presbytery's secretary Ev Leskiw were all present to move a shovel-ful of sand. The Building Team got into the action, as well as the children, and all members of the congregation were invited to don a hard-hat and wield a shovel!

And here they are, making the forms for the foundation of our new sanctuary...

Here's an image of the pre-foundational stage of the new sanctuary!

What a Difference a Day Makes - March 30, 2011

Rev. Cari caught this impressive photo yesterday morning, the excavator "looking for all the world like a hungry dinosaur!"

Demolition Begins Today! - March 29, 2011

Alf and Betty arrived at 7:30 am on this wet and cold spring morning (without coffee!) to snap pictures as the first crack at the walls began.  Interesting things will be happening on site all day today, so come on over and watch history unfold. If you bring your camera, forward the pictures to the office and we'll post them for all to see.

The bobcat started by moving all the scrap metal out of the area under the "portico" so that the excavator could take it down first... Betty said at one point there were a whole bunch of pigeons all lined up on the wires, ready to watch "the show!

Then the excavator started by gingerly removing all the metal pieces off the covered walkway. He knew what he was doing, and eventually the whole thing just collapsed toward the 3 parking spots beside it. The camera because it happened so fast! (fire the photographer!)

Meanwhile, the Bobcat began to score the walls of the CE Hall... it really looked a couple of times like the whole thing was going to fall over backward!

Pews on the Move - March 17, 2011

Visual evidence of change underway - our much loved sea-green pews have been removed from their floor bolts ready to be packed up!

Saying Goodbye - February 27, 2001

Despite a surprise snowfall, our pews were filled with friends, old and new, who wished to honour the sanctuary before its conversion to our new CE Hall. A decommissioning ceremony was held to express our gratitude for the 20 months of service as our Crossroads place of worship, and the decades of service prior as the place of worship for the St John’s congregation.

From the sanctuary we moved to the CE Hall, formed a large circle, shared communion, and with shouts, tears, and song, expressed our gratitude for the space and the years of ministry and service that took place within those walls – walls which we then covered with our gratitude, joy, and hopes for the future as giggling members, young and not-so-young, took pen to paint in a unique act of love-graffiti!

Working “Inside the Box” – February 19, 2011

The staff of Crossroads is now working in a portable trailer in the east parking lot of the Scott Road property. A warm and bright space, the trailer is 52’ by 10’ and features 3 distinct office spaces, as well as a bathroom and a small coffee counter. Rev. Cari has her own space, which facilitates her habit of sermon-writing with the door shut on Thursdays, and Jen and the music folks share another space. The larger space is presided over by Joanne and Diane, who continue to offer a warm welcome to any who drop in during the day. And thanks to the wonders of technology, the mailing address, phone numbers, and email addresses of all staff remain the same!
