Theological Basis

The Mission Strategy of Crossroads United Church is “to be a spiritual oasis in Christ for the community.” The ministry of marriage provides us with an opportunity for a spiritual encounter with people at a moment of joy, celebration and transition in their lives. As a congregation of the United Church of Canada we affirm that “life-long relationships need to be faithful, responsible, just, loving, health-giving, healing, and sustaining of community and self.”  (32nd General Council, 1988) 

Guidelines

We will perform a marriage ceremony for any two people who seek to affirm their relationship in the presence of God within the context of the Christian community.

1. Services will normally take place in the sanctuary, but other venues may be considered at the discretion of the minister(s).
2. Services will be performed regardless of ethnic origin or sexual orientation.
3. Services may include an interfaith aspect that is mutually respectful of both traditions.
4. We will encourage couples to participate in a course of marriage preparation.
5. We will abide by polices of the United Church of Canada.
6. Other clergy may preside following the limitations set out in The Manual.

Fees

Honoraria paid to ministers and musicians will be at par with other service providers.

Minister:             $200

Musician:            $150

Honoraria to others as necessary

Host/hostess           $50

Caretaker                $50

Sound tech             $50

Use of the church   $200

The total amount will be payable to Crossroads United Church.
