Sermons
Since the early part of the 20th Century, observers of North American culture have noted a decline in the capacity of preaching to catch the attention of emerging generations. Even just the mention of the word "preaching" is enough to set many teeth on edge! Still, at Crossroads we persist in the conviction that the Good News proclaimed can shape and hold a community, and that engagement with these ancient texts opens us to deeper awareness of God's movement here and now. So sermons take creative shapes at Crossroads: employing drama, congregational participation in reflection, questions and lots of humour. Bringing the Word alive is the work of the Holy Spirit in our midst, and we invite you to join the dialogue with the Holy.
The Rev. Cari Copeman-Haynes does not publish her sermons in print form, since she does not preach from a prepared manuscript. Audio files of recent Crossroads sermons can be accessed on the menu-bar on the left of the home page. Most are 15 to 20 minutes long. Since the congregation moved its worship location to the Firehall Centre for the Arts, sermons have not been recorded, which means that in-person engagement with the Word on Sunday mornings is even more important for our community!
