Funerals

Theological Basis

Crossroads United Church is "to be a spiritual oasis in Christ for the community." At a time of bereavement in families, it is our goal to support the process of grieving, to help family members find closure with meaningful ritual, and to point to God who mysteriously brings life out of death. The service itself will have two goals: to tell the truth about, celebrate and give thanks for the life of the deceased, and to place their life and death in the context of the deep truth of the Gospel.

Policy

Funerals and memorial services are arranged through the incumbent Minister(s) of Crossroads United Church, and scheduled through the church office.

  1. Services will normally take place in the sanctuary, but other venues may be considered at the discretion of the minister(s).
  2. Our musician will normally play at all services, and will offer guidance in choosing musical selections. The musician will be a full participant in musical decisions, and advised when guest musicians are invited.
  3. Special arrangement must be made in situations where the use of our digital projector or recorded music requires the involvement of trained sound technicians.
  4. Receptions in the Church Hall following the service may be arranged through the Bereavement Tea Coordinator, whose contact information is available from the Minister(s) or church office.
  5. Other clergy may preside following the limitations set out in The United Church Manual section 365
  6. We will abide by polices of the United Church of Canada.
