Baptism

THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated at Crossroads at regular intervals, during seasons of the church year when it seems most appropriate to us. Historically in the church, the season of Easter, the Reign of Christ, and the season after Epiphany are all times to celebrate growing faith and to welcome new Christians into the Body of Christ. We take our baptismal promises seriously at Crossroads, and rejoice to welcome fellow disciples of Jesus into our midst.

Adults who are seeking to explore what it would mean to commit to a life of active Christian faith are encouraged to contact one of our Ministers for information about the next "Faith Foundations" group (or see the menu item called "New Member Preparation" under the Spiritual Growth tab). Parents who are seeking to have an infant or child baptized are likewise encouraged to be in touch with a Minister. The United Church of Canada requires that one of the parents of infant and child candidates for baptism reaffirm his or her own faith, and commit to a life of discipleship, with all its joys and responsibilities.

The promises made at baptism are foundational to the life of the church in the world, and the waters of baptism mediate the grace of God in our Christian community. We give thanks for God's transforming grace in Jesus Christ every time we gather at the font for the Sacrament of Baptism.
